Quarterly Newsletter: Officially Selected
Congratulations to the WGA Negotiating Committee and Membership on holding the lines for 148 days to achieve a fair deal!
Mostly In-House
We’re happy to announce C.A.T. a Cosmic Alien Thing is an official selection of the Crown Heights Film Festival in Brooklyn, NY! This is incredibly special because this is where the short film was shot. If you’re in NYC, come join us on October 28th for the World Premiere! This free event will be two nights of music, conversation and great local and international films.
Check out the trailer here!
Even though C.A.T. wasn’t officially accepted into the 24th Annual Woodstock Film Festival (😿), we attended four incredible panels and watched three impressive short film programs.
Here were our major takeaways:
Every scene should get the audience to ask a question and create dramatic tension.
Watch Fellow Travelers on Showtime or Paramount Plus on Oct 27. Created by Ron Nyswaner. Based on the book by Thomas Mallon.
Not only are Steve Buscemi, Matthew Modine and Mary Stuart Masterson actors that direct, they are also wonderfully fun conversationists.
Think of directors as conductors.
For distribution in a monolithic streaming world, have short effective windows of release to create an after market.
Out of the three short film program we were able to watch during WFF our favorite stories were:
AIKĀNE directed by Daniel Sousa, Dean Hamer, Darren Press
The Fuse directed by Kevin Haefelin
I Am What You Imagine by Matthew Modine
Campfire by Austin Bunn
Fast Forward
Next quarter, we are looking forward to attending CHFF! And we’ll be returning to Bard College to attend three more Neil Gaiman lectures on writing.
For Now
We’re developing the next short film and diving into new writing endeavors. Hopefully, we’ll be announcing more festivals soon but we are so grateful we’re headed to the Crown Heights later this month.
